SCHOOL'S OUT, LET'S PLAY
Far out! is Finland's National Agency for Education financed program which turns pupils in primary education into scientists and researchers.
The goal is to create new, multidisciplinary learning models. The models are created by designing and doing environmental research projects, where pupils use different technological instruments and measurements and gamification as part of the research processes. Teachers are trained on environmental researching by Finnish Environment Institute SYKE, and on game-based learning by Seppo.io.
Far Out! is phenomenon based learning. The environmental themes are researched from various learning points. The research work is done partly outside in the nature while playing a mobile game. Reporting about the findings is also brought to the 21st century. The pupils and teachers can i.e. write or make a video blog about their project.
The program teaches important 21st century and citizen science skills, both to teachers and pupils.
Follow, what's happening with the program. This blog is a reporting channel for the pupils and teachers.
